School Center of Afgoye

Since 2007, the local partner has available cultivable land of 62 hectares in Afgooye district along the Shabelle River, which is about 50 kilometers from Mogadishu, an area filled with clay soils and fertile, in rural vocation.
The main problem that the population of Afgooye district faces is the LACK OF EDUCATUION .

Considering the consistent field of work and the statutory purposes relating to the education and training, Una Scuola Per la Vita Association has decided to solve the aspects problems identified by the local partner which are as follows :
-the access to education;
-The lack of places of education.

After an urgent request from the local partner, (Madina Warsame Development organization), has started the preliminary activities of a course of primary education and prepared the plan of establishing an educational center where basic courses of education and vocational trainings for the population of Afgoye district are provided .

The proposed action consists of installing:.
-An education center where basic courses of education are provided (kindergarten, elementary and middle) for boys and girls who reside in the villages around, and evening courses of vocational education and trainings for adults, priority women,
- the canteen,
- Agricultural-vocational school,
- Carpentry school,
- dormitories for boys,
- a center of aggregation and prayer ,
- field play
- multifunctional sports,
- housing for teachers.

The main objective of the project is to decrease the illiteracy rate of the population in Afgoye district, facilitating access to the study.

The specific objectives are:
- To offer a permanent space suitable for education and trainings.
- To enable basic education courses aimed at children and kids.
- To activate a training evening for adult women, either basic education or vocational training (weaving workshop and sewing).
- To promote the social and economic development of women.
- To activate a course for literacy aimed at young adults.

The expected results are:
- Creation of a permanent space for education and trainings.
- Activation of the classes of kindergarten, elementary and middle for 80 children.
- Activation of a formal education and vocational trainings (weaving and sewing) for 20 adult women.
- Improving the lives of adult women.
- Activation of a literacy course for 20 young adults.

Beneficiaries: The catchment area of the middle school is made up of the inhabitants of the farming village located in Madina Warsame farmland, by the inhabitants of ten rural villages those are located within a radius of six kilometers from the place where the school rises, and by refugees from Mogadishu who have settled in the area, which presumably remained in district of Afgoye for a few years, due to the political instability with no possibility of solution set or foreseeable in the near to medium term.



For participation in the training of elementary education in the first quarter will be identified:

60 boys and girls who have the following characteristics:-
males and females with ages between 6 and 15 years, illiterate, inhabitants in the area within a radius of six kilometers from the school center.
Those 60 pupils identified above will be divided according to their age groups in order to create three-class homogeneous.

For participation in kindergarten the first quarter will be identified:
20 boys and girls who have the following characteristics:- :
Males and females with ages between 3 and 6 years, residents in the area within a radius of six kilometers from school center, whose sisters attend classes in middle school. This selection criterion is designed to promote access to education for girls as they are often kept at home to look after younger brothers and sisters.

For participation in training activities for evening classes and vocational education aimed at adult women will be identified:
20 women over 16 years, residing in the village of workers in Madina Warsame farmland or in the village of Xarare located nearby.

For participation in the literacy course for young adults (men and women) will be identified:
20 young adults (males and females) over 16 years, from the illiterate population in the area within a radius of six kilometers from the school center, preferably having one or more members of his family who attend the middle school.
